Music
The
Marine Bar is famous for its live, year round Irish music. The gang have put together three completely different CD's reflecting some of the varying styles of music played.
Pub
Songs - sung by Sibin.
CD: The Best Irish Pub Songs in the World!
Over 50 classic singalongs and
ballads.
Paddy
McGinty's Goat (1.67m)
The tale of Paddy's goat and the ladies of Killaloo.
This is a cd quality MP3 download. Bernie Power, the vocalist,
plays the button accordion, and harmonica. Self taught - and
a master! Never one to be caught short for a joke, Bernie's sense
of humour is perfectly encapsulated in this song.
The Irish
Rover - The Old Maid - The Holy Ground (2.13m)
Sibin (pronounced Shebeen like
the traditional pub-community gathering spot) sings a rousing
medley of Irish pub tunes. The group's harmonies, playing, sense
of fun shines through. Another cd quality MP3 download.
The songs above are a sample
from Sibin's CD which has gone platinum based purely on word
of mouth. To order Irish Pub Songs, click here.
Sibin are:
Peter Hayes Bass and Vocals
From a family steeped in a musical
tradition, it was always inevitable that Peter would wend his
way into the entertainment business. He is the nephew of the
late Paddy Quinn, for decades a legendary figure on the traditional-music
scene in Co. Waterford.
Bernie Power Button Accordion,
Harmonica and Vocals
A rich and rare talent on Waterford's
entertainment trail, traditional music has been part and parcel
of Bernie's life from a very early age. His versatility is shown
by his ability on not only the accordion, but also on harmonica
and vocals. Bernie is also a joke-meister extraordinaire.
Christy O'Neill Guitar and Vocals
The affable host at the Marine
Bar. Christy is the leader of the famous music sessions that
are now an integral part of the entertainment scene at the Marine.

Sessions
- played by the locals
CD: The Best Traditonal Irish Sessions in the World
EVER!
Featuring Blackwater
The Copperplate (3.02m)
Featuring the playing of the
Uillean Pipes, Bones, tin whistle, and a host of other traditional
instruments, this old favorite is a jaunty, high paced tune.
A CD quality MP3 download from the album.
Whelan's
Jig - Pay the Reckoning - Atholl Highlanders (3.5m)
A set of Irish jigs, here featuring
the bodhran drum, banjo, accordion, and pipes. A CD quality MP3
download from the album.
Britches
Full of Stitches Polkas (3.78m)
Every kid given their first
tin whistle learns Britches. Here it is in the hands of the masters.
A national favorite that really showcases the tin whistle - amongst
others. A CD quality MP3 download from the album.
A sesiun is simply a get together
- a time for friends and visitors to play together as the mood
strikes. The drink flows, the talk flows, the music flows.
On Monday nights right throughout the
year local musicians come together at the Marine Bar for a traditional
Irish Session (sesiun in Irish). There's nothing commercial about
this at all. The musicians play because they love the music -
not the money of the overseas visitors. Whoever shows - plays.
Since the Marine is located in the An Rinn (Ring) Gaeltacht,
the most easterly and isolated of all the native Gaelic speaking
areas in Ireland, the Irish music tradition is uniquely strong.
Plenty of the "locals" are, in fact, famous professional
musicians.
For this recording, Christy
invited a few special friends to come along. Looking forward
to the recording, he was heard to promise "This is going
to be great!" Judge for yourself.

Kevin Evans Live!
Kevin's acoustic guitar work and ballads with all the energy of a live performance.
Recorded at the Marine Bar, in June 2004, this is a lovely album from a great ballad singer.
The guitars were a Martin Veteran for the opening tunes and a Guild, graciously loaned to me by Christy but paid for by Helen, for the songs in standard.
